Full Day Kindergarten:

Kindergarten Snack
The purpose of the full day kindergarten program in British Columbia is to "enhance children's overall development - not to rush them into academics at an earlier age.  The Province's decision to implement full day kindergarten as part of a high quality education program was based on the considerable body of research demonstrating the importance of children's early years as the foundation for lifelong learning and success in school and beyond" (BC Ministry of Education, 2010).

Gradual Entry:

Backpacks

Each school carefully plans a gradual transition to full day kindergarten. This important transition phase is aimed to set up children for success for the rest of their school years and involves a variety of visits, communications, and opportunities to connect young children and their families with the school before beginning the first day of full day kindergarten.

Gradual Entry is a time for children and families to connect with teachers and the school community.  Teachers gently introduce children to their surroundings, classroom routines, and procedures, easing the transition in a personalized way so children and families feel comfortable and valued as members of the school community.
