Daycare Neighbours of Brackendale Elementary Gift the School with a Peace Wreath

Last year with approval from the SD48 Board of Education, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) and School District No. 48 (SD48) worked in partnership to create 16 new childcare spaces for children ages 30 months to 5 years. The childcare program now operates out of Brackendale Elementary School and opened its doors in early September 2021.

Last week (October 29), Brackendale Elementary’s daycare neighbours and friends gifted Brackendale Elementary School a peace wreath accompanied with the following letter:

As mentioned in the British Columbia Early Learning Framework, “children develop a sense of place when they connect with their local communities” (p.21).

With an intention to create meaningful relationships within our community, the children and educators of Brackendale Childcare created this ‘Peace Wreath’. It signifies our sincere thanks and gratitude for sharing this space that we collectively live, work and study as visitors on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories, lands, and waters of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the TsleilWaututh, Skwxwu7mesh and Muqueam peoples.

We hope to continue to engage in a collaborative, meaningful educational journey together.

Vanessa, Sukhi, Jade and the entire Childcare class

We wanted to share with you this wonderful example of the partnerships between the child care and the K-12 sector taking place within our district.
